Karen Goldie-Morrison - Chair
A working life involved in natural history, first in publishing then in wildlife film and television, and recently in biology education. Has always had a strong personal interest in butterflies, and has been a supporter of BC for many years. Trustee of a number of other charities and brings to Butterfly Conservation a wide range of leadership and management experience acquired in both the business and charitable sectors.
Ilija Vukomanovic - Vice Chair
A career in medical diagnostics and Chair of the North Wales Branch of Butterfly Conservation, for 15 years - “adopted an informed regional perspective on Welsh Lepidoptera and would like to use this and my experience of managing change, to help build on the progress Butterfly Conservation has already made”.
Nigel Symington - Honorary Treasurer
Recently retired from a career in marketing and communication in food and drinks, and, latterly, for government bodies and NGO’s. Lived in Sussex for over 50 years and has an interest since childhood in butterflies and indeed in all forms of wildlife.
Apithanny Bourne
Became Chair of East Scotland Branch of Butterfly Conservation at the age of 24. A background in chemistry, first working for an environmental research institute, and then dedicating her time to study conservation, with a particular interest in urban pollinators. Carries a lifelong fascination and passion for insects and is committed to developing schemes to engage the younger generation.
Hugh Ellerton
With a career in financial services as a Chartered Accountant spent time working in France and the Far East. Recently retired as a professional trustee to spend time furthering his interests in butterfly and moth conservation. Has experience in fund management, audit, administration and governance.
Prof. Laurence Harwood
Background in academia, first at Manchester University and then Merton College Oxford, before becoming Chair of Organic Chemistry at Reading University in 1995. A lifelong Lepidopterist with a strong interest in the welfare of butterflies and moths in the UK.
Glenn Allison
Glenn has a strong financial background, having worked at a senior level in industry for over 40 years and has much experience in strategy setting and long-term planning. He has been President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and Vice-Chair of CBI Scotland. Glenn is an outdoors person and enjoys hillwalking, cycling, gardening and golf.
Dr Elaine King
With a scientific background, and talent for communication and advocacy, Elaine is an experienced Chief Executive with over 20 years' experience in the third sector. A passion for people and the natural environment has led to a career striving to make a difference for animal welfare and nature conservation.
Simon Saville
Joined Butterfly Conservation in 1985 and has been Chair of the Surrey & SW London Branch since 2016. Now retired from a career in public affairs focussing on digital, marketing, branding and communications. A childhood spent in the Dorset countryside sparked a lifelong passion for butterflies, moths and all types of wildlife. Actively involved in developing conservation projects in London.
Chris Winnick
A butterfly enthusiast since childhood, current Chairman of Cumbria Branch and Acting Joint Chair of Lancashire Branch - “has a real sense of enjoyment giving presentations to societies on the promotion of our countryside and on the work of BC as a key part of how all can enjoy the countryside”.
