Join us at Peterborough Museum at their Extinction Exhibition to learn about the butterflies and moths in the East of England and the work being done to ensure we do not lose any more of these beautiful insects to extinction!

Did you know that moths came before butterflies and that butterflies are just day-flying moths? Want to learn more about the history of both moths and butterflies, how they evolved and why we have such a diversity today? Think you know lots about them and want to test your knowledge and find out how to continue to support your local species?

We will be running a drop-in, family friendly event on Saturday 13th August from 10am to 4pm at the Peterborough Museum. We will open a moth trap from the previous night, showcase a display on life cycles and habitats, and provide crafts to help you learn about our local species with some items to take home. We will also walk you through their evolutionary timeline and let you in on the projects we are doing to save our at-risk species such as the Chequered Skipper and its reintroduction. Lastly a scavenger hunt will be available for you to have a go at on the day too!

There is no booking system, and the Extinction Exhibition is free, just turn up and speak to our Skipper Rangers! This event is run by Butterfly Conservation with the support of Peterborough Museum. See the Peterborough Museum page for further information (https://peterboroughmuseum.org.uk/events/extinctionand) and for their guidance of parking on-site (https://peterboroughmuseum.org.uk/plan-your-visit)
