Over recent years there has been an increase in the number of newly-sown wildflower meadows, especially in urban areas. There are a number of approaches to this, and no one method works in all situations.

This event will introduce you to the principles of meadow creation, including ground preparation, seed selection and ongoing maintenance. We will share lessons learned through the Helping Hands for Butterflies Project and the Nectar Network project.

We'll spend the morning indoors at Scottish Wildlife Trust's base in Irvine, before going out for the afternoon to see the fantastic meadows created by Scottish Wildlife Trust in Irvine. Lynne Bates, Nectar Network Co-ordinator will give us a tour of the new meadows and reflect on the successes and challenges of these.

This event will be of particular use to anyone who is working or volunteering in the conservation sector and who wants to find out more about how to approach meadows. Even if you just want to make a meadow in you're garden, you're also still very welcome to attend!
