Over recent years there has been an increase in the number of newly-sown wildflower meadows, especially in urban areas. There are a number of approaches to this, and no one method works in all situations.

This event will introduce you to the principles of meadow creation, including ground preparation, seed selection and ongoing maintenance. We will share lessons learned through the Helping Hands for Butterflies Project. North Edinburgh Arts artist-in-residence Natalie Taylor will also be there to lead some creative activities about meadows!

We'll spend the morning indoors at West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre, before going out for the afternoon to see one of the meadows created through the Helping Hands for Butterflies Project at Silverknowes (15 minutes walk away).

This event will be of particular use to anyone who is working or volunteering in the conservation sector and who wants to find out more about how to approach meadows. Even if you just want to make a meadow in you're garden, you're also still very welcome to attend!
