The sight of a Spring butterfly lifts the spirits. These familiar and much-loved insects signal new beginnings and fresh hope.

Our #ButterfliesForHope colouring competition ran in April/May to spread a little positivity and provide a simple and fun activity for all ages. 

We had a wonderful response, with over two hundred wonderful entries. Winners were selected by our Vice-president, Chris Packham and presenter Megan McCubbin. We are pleased to display the winning artwork below.

Prizes

Competition prizes have been generously donated from our Teemil clothing range and Arcturus publishing. Winners in each category will receive a Butterfly Conservation t-shirt from our official clothing store (winner's choice of design and size) and an Arcturus publication; colouring in, natural history or activity/puzzle book depending on the age category.  

About the illustrator

Hana Ayoob is an illustrator whose work is inspired by her background in biology, often featuring weird and wonderful animals as well as human anatomy. She draws in ink and digitally, and her art is full of intricate detail and repetitive patterns inspired by the traditional Indian art and henna tattoos she practiced as a child and teenager. When Hana isn’t sketching and doodling she can be found producing events, talking about animals and training researchers in science communication.

The #butterfliesforhope colouring competition is part of our Butterfly Effect project delivered in Gloucestershire with our local branch and funded by Restore Our Planet. At this time of year, we would be busy delivering workshops in schools and working with our volunteers to inspire communities to take action to save butterflies and moths. We are in the midst of delivering alternative ways to reach people with our message, and this competition is a part of that effort. We hope you enjoy it!
